Solar and battery projects

The following are solar and battery storage energy projects that are proposed, in construction, or serve Wisconsin and Upper Peninsula of Michigan customers. Solar energy projects use solar cells, also called photovoltaic (PV) cells, to convert sunlight into electricity. The solar panels used in these projects have tracking systems that allow the panels to move throughout the day as the sun changes position in the sky. The electricity created by solar panels can be stored in batteries for use after the sun sets.

1 Badger Hollow Solar Park is among the Midwest’s largest solar facilities and was named to RENEW Wisconsin’s Clean Energy Honor Roll in 2024.
2 The facility made history when it went online in November 2020, becoming Wisconsin’s first large-scale solar energy park.

Solar Now

Solar Now is our innovative program that produces clean energy for all customers. Through Solar Now, we partnered with large business, nonprofit and government customers to host solar panels. We leased space for the panels on roofs and unused land. Working with customers across the state, we completed projects with numerous partners including Harley-Davidson, University of Wisconsin-Parkside, City of Racine, School District of New Berlin and Washington County.

Solar Now is a program that was approved for up to 35 MW. The program is now at full capacity, and the PSCW voted to not expand it in late 2022.

Distributed energy resource sites

Distributed energy resources are smaller solar sites, averaging about 6 MW, that connect renewable solar energy directly to distribution lines serving local communities.
