Kyle Hoops was named senior vice president — power generation in January 2024.
In this role, Hoops has responsibility for power generation for We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service (WPS), overseeing the companies’ combined generation fleet, which includes coal, natural gas, biomass, wind, solar and hydroelectric assets. He also oversees the fleet’s support groups, including engineering, planning, training and safety, and is responsible for We Energies’ district energy business in downtown Milwaukee.
Hoops joined WPS in 1984 as a nuclear compliance engineer at Kewaunee Nuclear Plant, and later served as engineering supervisor, engineering superintendent and plant manager until the transfer of plant operations to Nuclear Management Company (NMC) in 2001.
While at NMC, Hoops continued to serve as plant manager for Kewaunee and later as site director through the sale of the plant to Dominion in 2005.
Hoops returned to WPS in 2006 as assistant plant manager at Pulliam. He later served as general manager — north district at Peoples Gas, general manager — resource planning and strategy in Power Generation, and eventually director — power generation support in October 2015.
Hoops holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, where he was named Outstanding Young Graduate. He also is a recipient of the South Dakota Governor’s Award for Valor.
Hoops is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and serves on the board of directors of Children’s Museum of Green Bay.
