Vipul “Vip” Kapoor

Director — Field Operations

Vipul “Vip” Kapoor was named director — field operations for Peoples Gas in December 2024.

In this role, Kapoor oversees field activities in the Peoples Gas service area. This includes all field operations, compliance, maintenance and capital construction, as well as oversight and accountability for safety, customer service and financial performance. He is also responsible for coordinating with external stakeholders, including state regulators, city leaders and industry partners. He previously held roles as area manager — field operations in the company’s Central, South and North districts.

Kapoor began his career at Peoples Gas in December 1999 as an associate engineer in the Engineering and Design department. He progressed to supervisory engineer in 2011, working on the company’s Safety Modernization Project. In 2012, he was selected as operations and maintenance leader — North District, where he oversaw customer-facing field work, emergency response and maintenance/compliance activities. In March 2013, Kapoor was named manager — system integrity, overseeing the company’s damage prevention program in coordination with the City of Chicago 811 program. During this assignment, Kapoor led the development of the Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas cross bore programs. In January 2016, he transitioned to operations manager — South District, overseeing all emergency response, maintenance, compliance and construction work.

Kapoor previously worked as a consultant for Triad Engineering in Indianapolis. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in environmental engineering from Purdue University. He also holds a labor relations certification from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from Motorola University.

Kapoor is a member of the American Gas Association (AGA) Construction Committee. He is involved in employee development and engagement initiatives through the Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas business resource groups, as well as various volunteering and fundraising efforts for nonprofit organizations.
