Salvador “Sal” Arana was named vice president — operations for Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas in June 2022. In this role, he is responsible for the field operations and field support functions of both companies.
Arana previously served as director — field operations for Peoples Gas, overseeing all day-to-day field work, including operations and maintenance, compliance, and implementation of the company’s Safety Modernization Program.
As director — field operations, Arana was responsible for keeping Peoples Gas on course to reach annual goals for safety, customer service and financial performance. Among other achievements, he developed and reinforced a continuous improvement and quality management culture and ensured the consistent application of project management, process management and improvement tools.
Arana began his career at Peoples Gas as an associate engineer. He has worked in management, engineering, field operations, construction, workforce planning and human resources, supporting the various utilities of WEC Energy Group.
Arana has a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University.
He serves on the boards of directors of the Midwest Energy Association and Casa Central, and is a member of the American Gas Association’s Construction and Operations Managing Committee. Arana was a 2020 fellow of the Chicago Latino Caucus Foundation’s Leadership Academy, and previously served as director of infrastructure and cochairman for the Illinois Economic Policy Institute and as a trustee on the board of the Utility Workers Union of America’s Power for America Training Trust.
